The haiku.
I
Absorbed in this grain
Sunlight and wingbeats and wind
The wild beauty stilled
II
Reminder to live
Like deep breaths after spring rain
Goodness lives and grows
III
Moonlight and sunlight
Infused now with finished wood
A place to be still
The Haiku Stools are a homage to our native ash trees currently being devastated by Ash Dieback Disease. Each tree lost impacts soil organisms, mosses, lichens, insects and birds dependent on it. We use diseased veteran trees for fine furniture-making, rather than see them degrade back to the earth, or be used for firewood. This is part of a local economy supporting the work of foresters and tree surgeons, and specialist saw-millers who manage these trees. The furniture making qualities of the timber is unaffected by Ash die-back. These stools are only available in Scottish ash. Our ash is from old trees and variations in grain pattern and colour are normal. Our ash tends to be darker than commercially grown ash and the steam-bending process also tends to make the colour richer. Stains, pips and uneven grain pattern is to be expected in this local wood.
The stools are finished in a natural, white pigmented oils. This is hard-wearing and easy to care for.
Dimensions of each stool is 48 x 48 x 48 cm.
We make Haiku stools to order so please allow up to twelve weeks lead time.
A single stool may be also be ordered from Made To Order section of our website..
