Solsgirth Dining Collection

A bespoke private collection for an Arts and Crafts house in Scotland.

Solsgirth Dining Table, Solsgirth Carver Chairs and Solsgirth Sideboard.

A beautiful collection including an extending dining table, carver dining chairs, a tambour-door sideboard was added to our Y Bar Stools, side tables and a bespoke lounge chair. The house was designed by Arts and Crafts Scottish architect Robert Lorimer, and it is inspiring and a privilege to design new furniture for special houses. We are very fortunate that some customers return to us over a period of years and it is thrilling to watch their collection grow.

The Solsgirth Dining collection was made in Perthshire oak. The Solsgirth Dining Table extends from a rectangular table (with curved ends) for six, to a round table for ten. When considering a new dining table it is useful to consider the space available, how many people will use it for daily use and how many you hope to seat on high days and holidays. Angus loves a design challenge and with extending tables you have to work out the storage of the extensions (in this case folded into the understructure) and the opening mechanism (in this case the table top rotates and gravity holds the extended table in place).

The Solsgirth Sideboard has sliding tambour doors that open to reveal three shelves.

The Solsgirth Chair relates to our Clova Chair made for Ash Rise. One length of wood is steambent to form the back-rest and front legs (this takes four makers working in unison). Another plank has been sliced twice to create a central section that bends forward to create the stretcher and the outer sections bend back to form a the curved backrest and back leg. The comfortable dished seat has a central web that dovetails into the back strengthening the chair.
