Stunning tripod bar stool with a dished seat and steam-bent back rest. Made to order in oak or ash grown and responsibly sourced in Scotland.
The three-legged Y Bar Stool is part of part of our Y Collection, nominated for The Woods Awards BEST BESPOKE FURNITURE DESIGN in 2012. Three legged chairs and stools are perfect for flagstone floors as they are more stable than four legged versions on uneven surfaces. Using wood well is all about understanding grain direction (wood fibres are very strong under compression) and coping with the constant movement due to changing humidity. In the Y Collection these properties are used to best advantage. The sliced and steam-bent Y shape is an ingenious component and remarkably strong as the wood fibres remain intact, with the weight of a seated person supported by the wood in its strongest grain direction. The end is round tenoned and brought through the seat to create a lovely end-grain detail on the surface of the seat. Two Y components are longer in the back legs to support the steam-bent curved back-rest. The end of these legs are also rounded off and brought through the back-rest and wedged creating a lovely end-grain detail. The Y Bar Stool has a comfortable dished seat and a stainless steel footrest (hand-made in Scotland) to ensure that the sitter stays for another dram or coffee, and feels in no rush to leave. The Y Bar Stools are made to order in Scottish oak or Scottish ash and like all our furniture they have a robust hand oiled finish.
