Some commissions are very meaningful and a true pleasure to design and make. Recently we have had two separate commissions to make Memorial Benches for inaccessible sites on Scottish hills.
The Memorial Bench has a simple pegged construction and is built around two oak posts buried deep into the ground. The bench is then assembled on-site. The curved steam-bent back-rest is the perfect surface for laser engraved text and we design the artwork in collaboration with the client.
Oak is remarkably durable and we expect the posts to last decades in the well drained soil. Being at the top of hills helps drainage.
Bench shown is on Kenmore Hill, nestled by a magnificent old Scot’s Pine, with incredible views towards Shiehallion.
Dimensions L 180 x D65 x H 70 cm.
