“Great to see native timber used in a fresh way and pushed beyond the obvious. The Unstable Stool is fantastic and a design of real clarity and integrity.”
Unstable Stool was our first product designed specifically to use local green (undried) wood and is featured in the SCOTTISH DESIGN GALLERY of V&A DUNDEE.
It was nominated for The Trada Wood Awards Best Furniture Design in 2009 and we now make these in batches of five in local oak or ash. A single length of wood is steamed and bent round a former to create a strong and effective asymmetric rocker for an exceptionally comfortable ergonomic stool. It has a hand shaped seat and it allows you to rock and lean forwards whilst sitting at a table or desk – a movement that keeps the spine straight and engages core muscles. It is ideal for kitchen, office or work-room. It has been used successfully by those with back problems.
