“Sketches and thoughts in his notepad come back with exact drawings and where neccesary the use of up to date IT techniques, all again enabling confidence in the design process .”

“Commissioning with Angus is an enjoyable experience, and you do easily feel part of the process to develop such craftsmanship. You can follow the design with visits to the workshop if wished (to understand the techniques of wood steaming for example) or leave it for a lovely surprise.”

Commissioning Process

It is exciting and straightforward to commission bespoke furniture from Angus. The first step is for Angus to properly understand your brief: your requirements for the space, the functions (think verbs like eating, meeting, storing) and reasons behind the commission so that he can bring your personal story and interests into the design. Establishing the brief may be done during a site visit or we can work with images and dimensions via email.

At this stage we will give you some indicative costs and it is useful to discuss a ballpark budget early in the process.

“Angus is an easy listener and easily bounces off ideas.”

Sketch, model, drawing

All designs are by Angus and timescales for the design phase vary, depending on the size of the commission and existing commitments. Initially Angus mulls over the brief and works in his sketch book until he has developed a design concept for discussion. This is usually presented in person as a 3D model, or may be emailed as CAD sketches. Once the design concept has been discussed and developed as required, and agreement has been reached, the concept is worked into a detailed drawing with costing and timescales.

Lead times

Once the final design and cost have been agreed we ask for a 50% deposit. This allows Angus to source the timber and schedule the work. You are welcome to visit during the making phase. Our lead times vary but twelve weeks making time is normal. Lead times are confirmed when the time deposit is paid.

When your furniture is ready, we will send you an invoice for the final balance and make arrangements for delivery.

Furniture that is a bespoke commission can not be returned.
